For our underground gas storage facility in Loenhout (see the map here) we’re looking for an Underground Gas Storage Process Operator/ Maintenance Technician (m/f/x).

At our underground storage facility in Loenhout, natural gas is stored at depths that can exceed one kilometre. The gas is kept in buffer so that users can at any time cope with the difference between the quantity they supply and the quantity their customers purchase.

Your
respon­sibilities

• During the natural gas sendout season (typically between November and March), you will work with your colleagues to ensure a safe, secure and efficient (production) process:
  • After a training period, during which you will learn about our facilities and their operation, you will join the site's continuous shift system, running mainly during the winter months
  • You will manage and monitor the entire process from the control room via the control system and/or in person on site using manual operations
  • You will interpret data and incoming alarms and take the appropriate steps, whether during normal operation, incidents, start-up or shutdown
  • You will monitor the site on a daily basis by conducting inspections and safety checks
• Outside the sendout season (mainly between April and November), you will perform maintenance duties in the team responsible for the mechanical maintenance and inspection of well facilities for gas and water that are connected to the geological gas storage reservoir:
  • monitoring the geological gas reservoir (e.g. carrying out sampling and interface control measurements using wireline technology)
  • maintaining and inspecting the well facilities (well heads for gas and water, safety valves, etc.)
  • providing assistance and supervision during maintenance and repair work by external contractors
  • assisting with specific projects (e.g. hydrogen storage pilot project)
  • dealing with faults and malfunctions (conducting thorough investigations, making suggestions and carrying out repairs or alterations together with the accompanying reporting)

About
you

• You hold at least an A2 diploma or a bachelor's degree in mechanics or electromechanics
• Some professional experience in a process environment would be an asset. Work experience in a Seveso plant would be a bonus
• You are fluent in Dutch and have a working knowledge of French and English
• You can work independently and enjoy responsibility

Additionally, this role requires:

• A category B driving licence; a category C or CE driving licence would be an advantage
• Willingness to be part of a shift system involving an on-call system
